 I was reading the New Zealand newspaper and found a rather interesting article about executioning about to be reinstated in New Zealand after being abolished twice since the first hanging.
On February 18, 1957, convicted murderer Walter James Bolton did not know he was only hours away from being executed.
The farm manager had long protested his innocence before and after he was charged, convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of his wife Beatrice. Hours before he walked to the gallows on February 18, he made an impassioned plea for his life to the superintendent at the Prison, Horace Haywood, and the prison psychologist, Don MacKenzie. Several hours later he was heavily sedated, assisted to the gallows and hanged. It was a messy execution.....
